Day by Day

Transfer-In Guayaquil

Upon arrival, a representative will meet us at the airport, assist us with our luggage, and transfer to the hotel.

Wetlands & Tortoise Breeding Center

In the morning, we will fly from Guayaquil towards Baltra Island from where we will connect with our small aircraft for an inter island flight towards Isabela Island. This seahorse-shaped island is the largest in the archipelago, 80 miles long. After lunch, we will visit the Tortoise Breeding Center, an initiative of the National Park for the conservation of Isabela’s tortoises. Then, we will visit the marshlands or humedales, where elevated walkways take us over tidal lagoons that include four mangrove species and provide habitat for flamingos and numerous migratory birds. We will walk along the beautiful white-sanded beach of Puerto Villamil in order to get back to our hotel.

Los Tuneles, Snorkel & Surf Lessons

In the morning, we will head to Los Tuneles, a spot frequented by local fishermen. Los Tuneles is a remarkable natural lava formation made of arches and underwater caves caused by the drastic change in lava temperature as it clashed with ocean water, around one million years ago. From our boat, we can see from penguins, sea birds to eagle rays and sharks as we slowly crisscross through the labyrinth of rocks and tunnels. We will then go to our snorkeling spot, where crystal clear waters and schools of tropical fish will lead us into an underwater paradise. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a family friendly surf lesson.

Giant Tortoises & Kayak Punta Estrada

Once we arrive in Santa Cruz, we will head to the highlands in order to get up close and personal with the giant Galapagos Tortoise at the private farms that conserve pristine, native, and endemic vegetation for the habitat of these magnificent creatures. As we follow the trail winding through this landscape, we will get plenty of chances to marvel at the Galapagos Tortoise in its entire splendor. Later, we will set out to Punta Estrada, a calm and beautiful bay where we can kayak close to magnificent mangroves, home to golden cow rays, sally light foot crabs and lava herons.

Bahia Ballena & Dinner with Fisherman

We will take a short boat ride to the sandy beaches of Bahia Ballena — an ocean inlet where Galapagos sea lions and marine iguanas bask on carpetweed and lava rocks. Here, we will appreciate Darwin’s finches and snorkel through an underwater world of lava rocks and small reefs swarming with tropical marine life. Reaching depths of up to thirty feet, the sandy ocean floor is home to pacific green sea turtles and long tailed stingrays of different shapes and sizes. In the afternoon, we will meet with Fabian, a local fisherman, visit his home and dine with his family.

Travel to Guayaquil

Today, we will travel to back Guayaquil, fondly known as “The Pearl of the Pacific”. It has an intriguing as in the 16th and 17th centuries Guayaquil became the largest shipyard to belong to the Spanish kingdom in the South Pacific. As we walk along the River Guayas, we will become acquainted with Guayaquil’s rich and colorful past—its wonderful architecture and interesting people.
